This is the biggest Competition in Valencia and one of the biggest in Spain . Taking place in March, throughout a week, this is an extremely worldwide event which each year enjoy more and more people from all over the world .
It is said that was born as a tribute to St. Joseph, patron of the carpenters’ guild. During this week, take place many differents parties, being The Falles the main one . Along the Falles week, in a show of art, the city becomes an ironic museum open 24 hours a day, and made up of an artistic assortment of more than 350 monuments made from carton, set up in the middle of the city’s streets. Those authentic sculptures are called “ninots” and have the target of provoke giggles among the Valencian people, due to their bold criticism of society and current politics.
Light, gunpowder, music and flowers are elements continually observed in Valencia’s celebrations . On the last night, at midnight, they are burned in great spectacularly lovely pyres.
